What are conjunctions?

Conjunctions are connecting words!  Conjunctions are used to join words or groups of words together. The most common ones are and, or, and but. (There are many others.) 

There are 4 types of conjunctions:

  • Subordinating
  • Coordinating : for, and, nor, not, so, yet.
  • Correlative
  • Conjunctive

  • Declarative Sentences
  • Exclamatory sentences
  • Imperative sentences
  • Interrogative sentences

Declarative sentences: A declarative sentence makes a statement. It ends with a period.

 

Interrogative sentences: asks a question. Ends with a question mark.

 

An exclamatory sentence show strong feeling. It ends with an exclamation point.

 

An imperative sentence gives a command. Ends with a period.

 

 

 


Parallelism

 

  • Parallelism in writing means that similar parts in a sentence (2 more) must have the same structure.
    • Their parts are comparable and balanced.
    • Allows writing to flow smoothly and helps avoid misunderstanding.
  • When similar parts do not follow the same structure, you have created Faulty Parallelism.
