Mother´s day

About

Mother´s Day is a day of the year on which mothers are particularly honoured by their children and family. In North America and South Africa it is the second Sunday in May; in Britain it has become another term for Mothering Sunday.

Meaning

Mother's Day was first suggested in 1872 by Julia Ward Howe (who wrote the words to the "Battle Hymn of the Republic") as a day dedicated to peace.

In 1907, Philadelphian Ana Jarvis began a campaign to establish a national Mother's Day. She persuaded her mother's church in Grafton, W.V. to celebrate Mother's Day on the second anniversary of her mother's death, the second Sunday of May.

Importance

It is a day which makes people remember the importance and significance of mothers in their life and is observed as a day to give a special emphasis to the motherly figures around the world.
